Seventeen Tsinghua research achievements recently won 2007 State Science and Technology Awards. Tsinghua professors accepted the awards on January 8 in Beijing at the annual National Science-Technology Award Ceremony in the Great Hall of the People.
Chinese President Hu Jintao, Premier Wen Jiabao, Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central CommitteeXi Jinping, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, and Li Keqiang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, attended the ceremony. State Council Member Chen Zhili announced the State Council's decisions on the 2007 State Science and Technology Awards.
Tsinghuaˇs research achievements ranked first among Chinese universities. Of Tsinghuaˇs seventeen awards, one was a State Natural Science Award second prize; eight were State Technological Invention Award second prizes; and eight were State Scientific and Technological Progress Award second prizes. Altogether nine research achievements were completed by Tsinghua as the lead research institution in collaboration with others.
The prize-winning research achievements as lead research institution include:
Fundamental Studies and Numerical Simulation of Dispersed Multiphase Turbulence and Turbulent Combustion, primarily achieved by Professor Zhou Lixing and his colleagues (State Natural Science Award second prize);
Surface Acoustic Wave Materials and its Application, primarily achieved by Professor Pan Feng and his colleagues (State Technological Invention Award second prize);
Orthogonally polarized lasers and precision measurement instruments based on their resonating characteristics, primarily achieved by Professor Zhang Shulian and his colleagues (State Technological Invention Award second prize);
Device and System of Modularized Liquid Desiccant Air Handling Unit with Total Heat Recovery Function, primarily achieved by Academician Jiang Yi and his colleagues (State l Technological Invention Award second prize);
A New Electronic
